How to Delete a Property from Google Analytics Account

Google Analytics is so cool but sometimes it can be a little confusing.  It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to delete a property out of one of my accounts.. why isn’t there a “delete property” button!?

Well – I made this video to show you how to delete a property (and profile) from your Google Analytics account.

Hey everyone, Arsham Mirshah here, going to show you how to delete a property out of your Google Analytics account.

I’m making this video because it’s not supremely intuitive. There’s no “delete property“ button anywhere so it took me a little while to figure it out, so I want to make it easy for you. Hopefully this video helps.

First things first, you have to be an admin, right? From your analytics home screen, you want to click on the admin button in the upper right.

Then you want to find the account which contains the property you want to delete.

So let’s say you don’t want this property anymore, right? You can add a new one but you can’t delete it easily. You might look around and you might say, “Oh, what about in the account settings?” And then there is this “delete account” link over here but that deletes the entire account. If you do that you’re going to delete all of these properties, and that’s not good; you don’t want to do that.

So the way to do it, very simple actually. You just click into the property and notice that there’s only one profile here. The way that you delete the Google Analytics property is by deleting all the profiles underneath it.

So click into the property you want to delete, click into the profile, go to profile settings, come to the bottom, click the “delete this profile” link. Now notice that we’re back at the properties tab of the account. So account > properties and web-mechanix.com is gone now.

All that data is gone and you can never get it back so make sure if you’re going to delete the property that you don’t want the data in there anymore, right?
